Commissioning with Homey

Requirements

You need either a Homey Bridge or Homey Pro 2023. Both support Matter commissioning via the Homey smartphone app. Make sure your Homey firmware is up to date before starting.

Important: Homey Bridge routes Matter commissioning and control through the Athom cloud. This means remote access works, but the device is not controlled purely locally — an internet connection is required for full functionality. If local-only operation is a requirement (e.g. for reliability or privacy), use a Homey Pro 2023 instead, which runs all automations and Matter control locally with no cloud dependency.

Step 1: Open the Homey App

1

Open the Homey App

Launch the Homey app on your smartphone. Make sure you are on the same Wi-Fi network as your Homey Bridge or Homey Pro.

2

Tap the ”+” Button

Tap the ”+” icon at the top right of the home screen to start adding a new device.

Step 2: Select Matter

3

Choose “Matter”

In the “Add device” screen, scroll down or search for Matter and tap it. You may also see it listed under a brand — select “Matter” directly for generic pairing.

4

Select Your Homey Device

If you have multiple Homey devices, select the one you want the light to pair with (e.g. Homey Pro or Homey Bridge).

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

5

Position Your Phone

Hold your smartphone close to the Prolicht fixture — within 20–30 cm for best results during initial pairing.

6

Scan the Matter QR Code

The Homey app will open your camera. Scan the Matter QR code printed on the Prolicht fixture or included in the packaging.

Step 4: Complete Setup

7

Wait for Commissioning (2–3 minutes)

Homey will commission the device over your Wi-Fi network. This typically takes 1–3 minutes. Do not close the app or move away from the fixture during this step.

8

Name and Assign to a Zone

Once paired, give the light a name and assign it to a room or zone in your Homey setup. You can now control it manually, include it in Flows, or link it to other devices.

Using Homey Flows

Once your Prolicht fixture is added, you can use Homey Flows to automate it:

  • Turn lights on/off based on time, presence, or other triggers
  • Dim to specific levels via voice (Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri via HomeKit)
  • Link with sensors, buttons, or other Matter/Zigbee/Z-Wave devices on the same Homey

Tip: Homey Pro (2023) runs all automations locally — no cloud dependency, faster response times, and works during internet outages.
